Sea of Solitude has successfully depicted the literal meaning of the term. In this game, people come to realise how fatal mental health issues can be. Mental health issues have always been treated as a stigma. In short, Sea of Solitude is about the thoughts that come to Kay as she tries to come to terms with her shortcomings. To overcome her fears of helplessness and loneliness, Kay has to know herself better, delve deep into her past and Interact with people. The emotions she goes through has been strongly depicted in this game. As she witnesses the huge, tall figures in front of her, she feels broken and destroyed. She sees giant monsters standing in her way. Players, in the role of Kay, explore an empty, barren city, flooded with red-eyed inhabitants to find out why Kay turned into a monster eventually. Gradually, all earthly feelings die inside her and she turns into a monster. Kay suffers from strong senses of isolation and loneliness, anger, hopelessness, and worthlessness. Players take the role of Kay in the game. However, she made it clear that such traumatic and terrible scenes in the game aren’t derived from her past. The director of Sea of Solitude has spoken about her fears and emotions she experienced while going through an emotionally abusive relationship from 2014 to 2017.
